     EUROPE - ESTONIA

       Skanska to construct airport terminal in Tallinn for 39.3m

Skanska has secured the contract to construct a new terminal at the International Airport in Tallinn, Estonia. The contract price totals €39.3 million, approximately SEK 365 million. The customer is the state-owned airport company, AS Tallinna Lennujaam.
 
The contract applies to the new production of a terminal covering approximately 15,000 square meters and renovation of approximately 5,000 square meters of an existing building. The contract also includes responsibility for the extensive installation of communication and security systems. Construction will begin in the autumn and the project is scheduled to be completed in 18 months. The project will be conducted by Skanska Finland’s Estonian subsidiary Skanska EMV.


    AFRICA - EGYPT

      ARINC to deploy state-of-the-art technologies at Cairo International Terminal Three

The new Terminal Three of Cairo International Airport will be equipped with the most advanced suite of airport technologies ever deployed when it opens for travellers in early 2008. Some 14 state-of-the-art airport operational systems developed by ARINC will be deployed at the terminal. The US$ 22 million project, recently approved by the Cairo Airport Company, will feature several significant firsts for the airport industry and the region. ARINC will install the world’s first context-aware operational platform at an airport, expediting the ramp control and management functions at Terminal Three. This breakthrough will enhance both efficiency and security by linking employees automatically with the precise IT applications they require for work at all times.


 

MIDDLE EAST -  UAE

 SR Technics acquired for CHF 1.6 billion

Zurich-based SR Technics, the independent provider of technical services in the aircraft, component and engine areas, is to be acquired by a consortium of three investors from the United Arab Emirates, it was announced. The new owners’ consortium is made up of Mubadala Development, Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) and Istithmar. The transaction value is CHF 1.6 billion.  

SR Technics will remain a stand-alone independent corporate entity led by the current CEO Hans Lerch and his management team. The company’s headquarters will continue to be at Zurich Airport and its present facilities and work force of approximately 5,000 employees will be retained. The consortium will hold a majority stake of more than 90 per cent of SR Technics, with Mubadala Development owning 40 per cent of the consortium’s stake and both DAE and Istithmar holding 30 per cent of that stake. The remaining shares will be retained by the management of SR Technics.

Shanghai Pudong Airport selects SITA

Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) aims to handle 100 million passengers by 2020 when it opens its new terminal next year equipped with IT solutions from SITA, it was announced. SITA and the SIIC Shanghai International Trade (Group) Co. Ltd have been awarded a four-year $8 million contract to equip PVG’s Terminal 2 in time for its scheduled opening next year, with integrated airport management systems including SITA’s passenger check-in system AirportConnect Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE) and baggage reconciliation system, BagManager.   

The new terminal is currently under construction and is designed to handle up to 60 million passengers per year. Installation of SITA’s AirportConnect CUTE at PVG will allow access to all airline and airport IT systems from a single shared workstation over an IP-enabled network using Windows XP.


    MIDDLE EAST - UAE

      ADAC takes over operation, management of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain Airports

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) has formally assumed the operation and management of Abu Dhabi International Airport and Al Ain International Airport with effect from September 28, 2006. As part of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s vision to develop the Abu Dhabi aviation sector, Emiri Decree No 5 issued on March 4, 2006, granted ADAC the mandate to manage, operate and maintain airports and associated facilities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. According to its incorporation decree, ADAC is a public joint-stock company enjoying independent body corporate identity and full legal competence to pursue its set objectives. The company is mandated to operate and maintain airport facilities and infrastructure and to oversee airport services rendered by private firms and other stakeholders. It will provide the Emirate's airports with technical and management services of appropriate international standards of safety, security and efficiency.


   

    ASIA - THAILAND

   
  Smiths Detection Consortium wins contract at Suvarnabhumi Airport

Smiths-EMC, a consortium led by Smiths Detection, recently announced it has won a contract to supply a comprehensive integrated security system for Thai Airways at Bangkok’s new Suvarnabhumi Airport. Under the contract, valued at over US$ 10 million, Smiths Detection will supply, install and integrate X-ray screening equipment, the network infrastructure, intelligent CCTV systems, access control and intrusion detection systems. In the first international contract of its type for Smiths Detection, its LiveWave business unit will integrate the security hardware through its FirstView systems management software to create a highly secure network and master control facility that connects all physical security equipment on the site.
