Airline Support Facilities project awarded at NDIA
Aktor SA, a subsidiary company of
Elliniki Technodomiki TEB Group has announced its involvement in
the construction of the Airline Support Facilities of the New
Doha International Airport in Joint Venture with the local
company Al Darwish Engineering, the Cypriot company Cybarco and
the Italian company Cimolai. The project value is $199 million
and will be completed in December 2008. Aktor SA is the leader
in the above Joint Venture with its share of participation
reaching 40 per cent. Concessionaire of the project is the NDIA
Steering Committee, while the American company Bechtel has
undertaken the representation of the customer within the
framework of the EPCM contract (engineering, procurement and
construction management).

UAE
GCAA
awards new aviation contracts
The General Civil Aviation
Authority (GCAA) has awarded an AED100m contract to Athena
Emirates, to build the Sheikh Zayed Centre, a new Air
Navigations Services Centre, located at Raha area two km west
of Abu Dhabi International Airport. The project will be
completed within 14 months, by November 2007. The site will
house two main buildings designated the Area Control Centre
building and the Emergency Area Control Centre building. GCAA
also signed two AED81 million contracts with the Raytheon
Company and with Park Air Systems in September for Sheikh
Zayed Centre. Another contract was awarded to Park Air Systems
by the GCAA to integrate UAE’s nationwide ground-to-air
communications system connecting pilots with air-traffic
controllers. Park Air Systems' GAREX 220 Voice Communication
Control System (VCCS) and PAE T6 Multimode Digital Radio (MDR)
will integrate the entire voice communication systems and
VHF/UHF radio facilities within the GCAA communication
infrastructure at Abu Dhabi, UAE.

ASIA - CHINA
New $85 million-MRO
facility at Pudong Int’l Airport
Boeing, Shanghai Airport (Group)
Company Limited, and Shanghai Airlines Co., Ltd, recently
broke ground for a new maintenance, repair and overhaul
facility that the three companies will manage as Boeing
Shanghai Aviation Services based at Pudong International
Airport in Shanghai. Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services will
provide airplane modifications and maintenance, sale and
repair of aviation equipment, and related engineering and
technical services. The facility will be constructed in two
phases. Phase one includes a double-bay hangar, support shops,
and fire, power and waste-treatment systems. Phase two extends
the facility with another double-bay hangar, parts warehouse,
engine shop, and ground-service equipment maintenance shop. Of
the $85 million stated investment, Boeing holds 60 percent,
Shanghai Airlines holds 15 percent, and Shanghai Airport
Authority holds 25 percent.

Construction
of INR 2.5 billion new international terminal building at
Thiruvananthapuram
airport approved
The Government of India recently approved the
construction of a new International Passenger Terminal
Building at Thiruvananthapuram airport in two phases at an
estimated cost of INR 2.5 billion to meet the projected growth
in passenger traffic at Thiruvananthapuram airport. This will
have a foreign exchange component of INR 269.2 million. The
estimated cost of construction of Phase I of the project is
INR 1.66 billion and of Phase II is INR 800 million.

SUDAN
Khartoum
goes live with 100 pc HBS
Khartoum International Airport
has gone live with new check-in Departures and Arrivals
baggage handling systems, including 100 per cent HBS (Hold
Baggage Screening) as part of the airport's recent
refurbishment program. The Sudan Civil Aviation Authority
selected baggage systems integrator, Logan Teleflex, to
provide both Departures and Arrivals systems, equipment,
installation, controls and training, as two separate projects.
The departures system, which went live in September 2006 in
the new Departures Terminal, feeds off 20 two-stage check-in
positions and handles baggage at Levels 1 & 2 and to Level 3
screening. The HBS, incorporating standard four queue
conveyors prior to X-ray screening and secondary bag
separation, is fully integrated with the main baggage system.

ARINC wins US$ 22 million
state-of-the-art technology project at Cairo
International Terminal Three
The new Terminal Three of Cairo International
Airport will be equipped with the most advanced suite of
airport technologies ever deployed when it opens for
travellers in early 2008. Some 14 state-of-the-art airport
operational systems developed by ARINC will be deployed at the
terminal. The US$ 22 million project, recently approved by the
Cairo Airport Company, will feature several significant firsts
for the airport industry and the region.

Alpha wins
catering contract at Sharjah International Airport
Alpha Airports Group, an aviation support company, recently
announced that, after an
international tender
process, it has won a 10-year contract with United Arab
Emirate’s Sharjah International Airport. This contract will
provide exclusive flight catering and ancillary services to
all airlines operating out of the airport, which is
strategically located in the Arabian Gulf.

EUROPE - CZECH REPUBLIC
Tender
procedures for Prague airport commercial space lease receive
overwhelming
response
In the framework of a tender procedure, Prague
Airport received 38 tenders from 23 companies for the lease of
19 commercial spaces in the public and transit parts of the
Sever One and Sever Two Terminals. Half of the tenders were
sent by companies that already operate businesses at the
airport. The tender procedure was held in order to extend the
assortment of goods and range of services to encompass all
types of travellers.
