Prague airport offers
monitored parking
On September 17, 2007, Prague airport opened
a section of monitored parking in the
Parking C building. Thus, it is expanding its existing
parking system to include a service that is unusual in other
similar European airports. Covered monitored parking is
found immediately by the terminals, on the second floor of
the Parking C building. It has a capacity of 104 seats, four
of which are for ZTP (handicapped) and ZTP/P (assistant to
handicapped) cardholders. Among the main benefits of this
parking lot include non-stop monitoring via a camera system;
non-stop presence of a parking lot employee; and short
distance from Terminals North (Sever) 1 and North (Sever) 2.
This possibility complements the airport’s parking system,
which comprises short-term parking (so-called kiss and ride)
with 15 minutes of free parking, medium-term parking and
long-term parking.

Company South Africa upgrades George airport for traveller
convenience
Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has
upgraded its George airport with an investment of R43
million and this is the company’s continued investment in
infrastructure with a view of making travelling an enjoyable
and comfortable experience. Passenger traffic at the airport
is forecast to reach 998,396 in 2012 from projections of
669,659 in the current financial year. The design and
planning of the upgrade to the George airport began in
September 2004, while the construction occurred in a
three-phase process, with Phase One being an internal
upgrade creating space for more check-in counters and
airline operators. Phase Two of the airport upgrade
comprised civil earthworks. Phase Three involved the actual
building upgrade and additions to the existing terminal. A
new freestanding car rental building was constructed. The
building contract tender was awarded in January 2006 to
joint venture partners, JJG/Sekati Construction and the site
was officially handed over last February.

Schüco
involved in expansion of Sofia Airport
The expansion of Sofia Airport
will feature 15,000 sq m of façade glazing and a further
1,200 sq m of glazing for transparent internal partition
walls and door systems. The expansion of Sofia Airport was
designed and built as a new building, separate from the
existing airport. Part of the project included lengthening
the runways to accommodate the wide-body aircraft – A380 and
B747. The new Terminal 2 has seven additional gates,
increasing the airport's capacity and helping optimise the
routing of passengers directly to the planes. The 4-storey
underground car park will have approx. 800 parking spaces. A
mullion-transom façade was chosen and owing to the large
module widths of 3,150 mm and the resulting heavy glass
weights, a variant of the Schüco FW 60+ system was selected
for Arrivals and Departures. All external doors were
fabricated using the Jansen Janisol system.
